I’m not sure if other people do this (maybe you do) but I like background noise when I work. “Work” can mean a whole myriad of things from personal projects like Liz at Large cartoons and animations, paid commissions, doodles, anything art related. Anyway, when I work I like to watch TV (the millennial version of TV so I mean Netflix or HBO GO). When I’m really into what I’m doing, like really into it, all time stops. Maybe it’s been 15 minutes, maybe it’s been 15 hours, who knows. This TV habit of mine has allowed me to create a new measurement of time: Number of Seasons. So since September, not even the real beginning of last year because I can’t remember that far back but just September, I’ve watched the full series, yes the entire 9 seasons, of “The Office”, the full series of “Game of Thrones” (6 seasons), the full series of “Parks and Recreation” (7 seasons), 1 season of “The Crown”, 2 seasons of “Sherlock”, 1 season of “Stranger Things”, 1 season of “Troll Hunters”, 1 season of “Jane the Virgin”, 1 season of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”, and the first half of season 1 of “The Walking Dead”. What’s even more startling is that I watch more movies than I do TV shows.
This has been my most creative year yet, I made 339 digital illustrations since last December. Just digital illustrations, that’s not including paintings (I was in a 2 hour twice a week painting studio class this semester), paper sketches or drawings, animations, or printmaking things. And for the first time in my college career I got all A’s this semester (loud applause).
On a big level 2016 was total crap, on a small Liz sized level, 2016 was pretty good. I mean I spent the summer in France for goodness sake, 2016 was a great year the second I landed in Paris. I love the idea of a fresh start and clean slate that the new year brings. It would be such a bummer to have a rotten moldy start and a dirty slate right when things are kickin off. At that point it’s like why bother you’ve already stumbled at the start just sit this one out, keep the bench warm this round. But that’s not how it works, you have the start or the stumble you want to have and coach is gonna put you in whether you like it or not so might as well start with a smile. Here’s to another year of playing the game 🥂🍺🍻🍹🍸🍷🍾(guess who just turned 21 holla atcha gurl)
